We tend to fall back on self-love/self-care too much, too often in our culture and cling to it while other cultures are prepared to see the world outside of themselves as it is. If we cannot work together in a whole-world strategy, now, nothing will work.

I agree with what you say about capitalism and us having to change our mindset. But those priorities will have to come into line with or even take second place to saving the planet at this point because everything has to be devoted to that cause if we are to halt the march of climate change and keep the planet habitable for some living things. Unless we reach that goal as quickly as possible, nothing else matters. And we might as well start killing each other right now (a distinct possibility, btw) rather than toying with ourselves. That would be the best solution for whatever other lifeforms remain.

Do notice that far too many of these self-care rituals, even from therapists, are turning towards “mysticism” and this has always, historically, fed into authoritarian outcomes of one sort or another. We don’t have time for this. Division and war will be the end of everything.

As long as there is life here, there is hope.
