This is a novel. Campbell was an academic. I'm uncertain what you're saying here. Campbell's motto was "follow your bliss," and essentially find your passion, but he was very grounded in this where Coelho is creating yet another fiction drawing upon the fictions of old. And when you say "made it his life's work" I'm not sure I know what you mean by "it" because he made the study of myth and its place in our lives his life's work; how myth and its meaning/application still apply to our lives as symbols and metaphors today. He also, and certainly you know this being familiar wth him, went to great lengths to show how myths from other cultures were as powerful as our own in their unique ways and how some other cultural myths were so simliar to ours.
