The planet, like everything else in the Universe, has always been doomed, planned for destruction. We’ve only accelerated the process through our selfishness, stupidity and greed. People can deny anything and create their own facts. This has always been the case. Trump placed a plaque on his Virginia golf course indicating it to be the site of an historic Civil War battle. Reporters went to historians who told them no battle was ever fought there. When they questioned Trump he responded, “How would they know? Were they there?” This is the mentality that governs the stupid, the mendacious and the greedy among us, the ones who will always do for themselves without caring about the world around them. They see trees and animals dying and they say, “It’s not my fault.”

In the United States this is something that has reverberated for a long time. To go on to another matter with currency, we hear white people speaking of slavery as if it were “not my fault.” But our country was founded upon slavery, would not exist without slavery; everything we have here we owe to slavery, and every white US citizen owes everything they have, basically, to slavery. Still, most turn their back to that fact.

To say this is somehow the “human condition” also has some credibility. We see something like it everywhere in the world. The remains of indigenous children in Western Canada, for example. The hatred of North African immigrants in Europe and Muslims, generally, in China and Russia. There is no end to such source material.

And we’ve all killed the dolphins with plastics.
