I write about the topics you listed. It means absolutely nothing, but a few days ago I was “awarded” the title of TOP WRITER (once again, for the umpteenth time, based on Lord knows what criteria) this time in the category of climate change. But would you like to guess how many people read my articles on climate change?
I write on nearly all the topics you mentioned. But I also write on many others, not (necessarily) hoping to magnetically draw a crowd but because I WRITE EVERY DAY what is on my mind. Sometimes about myself and my past. Why not? I write novels and often I work out ideas through essay sketches on Medium. Why not? If I can make a few pennies (literally) while doing it, why not? I have friends here who ask me about my “glorified” past and to write about this and that? Why not if they are interested?
A few pennies here and there to feed the cat.
And I write about writing and flatly stupid editors like the one our friend there was writing about who just should keep his mouth shut in public and simply do his job. Just do the job. Like so many editors on Medium don’t. Many because they don’t know how. Many because they are narcissistic power freaks.
I’ve been an editor off and on throughout my life and I’ve seen some of the best. While here, unfortunately, I’ve had an opportunity to witness some of the worst. People who slap “EDITOR” on their forehead and do nothing more in terms of WORK than pontificate about what writing “should be,” then proceed, through what they publish, to prove they know nothing at all about anything, not even the basics. Or, perhaps they do, but they are so busy pontificating and publishing the nonsense their friends submit, filled with errors, that they have no time for anything else.
So, where was I? Yeah, absolutely.
It isn’t Medium’s fault these things are happening. Whether or not they are attempting to induce a trend in the opposite direction, this is still “social media” and the people on the platform will determine its direction. And as long as Medium is making tons of money (they are) nothing will change.
