I live in The South now, and have for several decades, but I grew up in New York City and even there it was happening all around me, but I had no idea what it was really like until I came down South when I was seventeen with two friends to do some work and we were stopped, beaten, had our hair cut off and ended up in jail as though we were the ones who had started the trouble. We all learned something that day you don’t and possibly can't figure out reading.
