Hello, Kate Foster! Nice to meet you, one ignorant person to another...

Women zai shuo ba is Mandarin and loosely translates into English as something like “kicking the can down the road.” It can be taken several different ways, often, “We’ll talk about this later,” as a manner of putting off something causing a minor problem that really shouldn’t be a problem in the first place and, if left to lay a while, is probably best forgotten. Like so many silly and unimportant things.

I first heard this when I was growing up around Chinatown in New York City but really didn’t get familiar with the phrase until I moved to San Francisco a few years later.

Possessor of Paul Newman eyes. Author of many things straightforward and strange. Some of them appear here. “Women zai shuo ba” as the Mandarin say. Born 2016.
