But not 100% and as you say at the end there has to be room for forgiveness and compassion. The four stereotypes you elaborate are often aspects of most personalities at times, and this is the problem. Remember that nearly all families are somewhat dysfunctional. There is no perfection out in the world. I've yet to meet anyone without some neurotic behavior (and I don't believe Freud did, either...). Controlling behaviors are only one aspect of problems.

However, one take on all of this...

So many "relationships" these days either begin or are frequently maintained long-term through social media where all of these control dramas play out as well, just as significantly. And with just as much damage.
