Take a look at any book of poetry, any one at random. How many of those poems have a note attached at the end explaining it?

The closer you get to current times the more likely it is that you may find one. Why is that? Because readers today are so fucking stupid. They don’t know anything. They don’t read. They are so terribly uninformed about life. So poets, who actually know what’s going on in the world and are writing about it, have to then explain what points about life they are making reference to.

Now examine the notes that SO MANY people attach to what they write. Are they necessary? Do they really explain anything that is unknowable? Or do they, on the other hand, merely reveal the weakness in their writing? The very fact that they feel the need to explain is telling them they haven’t finished the work.
